Château Latour-Martillac Red
2014
The 2014 Vintage
Following a mild and wet winter in which ground water levels were increased, spring 2014 was a season of constant rainfall and mild temperatures which encouraged an early bud break. The flowering period which followed this was rapid and homogeneous with the exception of the Merlot, where ‘coulure’ or a slight loss of fruit was apparent.
After a cool and mainly dry July, August was a particularly wet month. The cool August nights stimulated a presence of advanced aromas in the white grapes and an excellent build-up of anthocyanins and aromas in the red grapes.
The fabulous Indian Summer in September evened out the discrepancies in ripeness, which occurred during ‘veraison’. This remarkable autumn allowed us to harvest all of our grapes with great ease.

Tasting notes
The Wine Advocate by Neil Martin – 90-93 pts (2015/05)
« The Château Latour-Martillac 2014 has a light, slightly pinched bouquet with sultry blackberry and briary fruit, but missing the sense of energy of a great vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet ripe dark cherry and peppery entry. The tannins feel soft, saturated even, and the finish compensates for the nose with commendable precision if not quite the length. This is a Pessac-Léognan that could improve dramatically in barrel. The components just need to be knitted together. »
Wine Spectator by James Molesworth – 90-93 pts (2015/03)
« Ripe but racy, with the core of raspberry, plum and blackberry confiture coursing along thanks to mouthwatering acidity, while anise, cinnamon and black tea notes fill the finish. Shows admirable grip, too. »
