Château Latour-Martillac Red
2002
The 2002 Vintage
After a dry winter, the flowering was hindered by heavy rains in May and June, leading to some “coulure” and “millerandage”, especially on the young merlot vines.A wet summer did nothing for the change of color of the berries, but a miraculous September allowed the complete ripening of the two main varietals. The Indian summer led to astoundingly expressive cabernets sauvignon which represent almost two thirds of the final blend.

Tasting notes
The Wine Advocate by Neil Martin – 86 pts (2009/10)
« Tasted blind at Farr’s 2002 Bordeaux tasting. The nose is light but defined, tertiary with a touch of smoke and cigar box. The palate is medium-bodied, a bit tart on the entry, but clean and well defined in the middle and finish with a seam of citrus fruits lending it vitality. Not a complex Graves, but well made for the vintage. Tasted October 2009.»
Wine Spectator – 86 pts (2005/03)
« Firm and plummy with good berry and cherry character. Medium-bodied, with slightly angular tannins and a medium finish. Best after 2007. 10,200 cases made. »
