Château Latour-Martillac Red

The 2008 Vintage
The dawn of the 7th of April was too pure and will stay forever in the memory of the Bordeaux wine growers : a bitterly unexpected frost became very lethal. The principal victims were the early grape varieties : Sauvignons and Merlots delaying the start of their growth and their flowering. The veraison was slow but equal on all the grape varieties, during a fresh but dry summer. The first soaked September days, worried us a lot. The miracle, or the divine surprise, took place during the second week, with the arrival of a nicely frsh but constant weather to go along with the harvests.

Tasting notes
James Suckling – 90 pts (2014/03)
« Blackberry, minerals, stones and fresh herbs on the nose. Full body with chewy tannins and a firm finish. Crisp and bright. This red is still a little young ; try in 2016. »
Wine Spectator – 90 pts (2011/04)
« Mulled plum and spice notes are backed by a solid fleshy feel, with tar, cassis bush and espresso hints filling in the back end. A tarry streak still rides through the finish, but this has slightly better polish as well. Drink now through 2015. 11,600 cases made. »
